Top 5 Reasons Loose Leaf Tea Is Where It's At

Tami Kowal featured blog post

When most people think of tea, they think of dunking a teabag into hot water. Meanwhile, there is an expansive and exciting world of loose leaf tea just waiting to be discovered. I am confident that once you try loose leaf tea you won’t want to go back to a teabag unless there’s no other option available! Here are my top five reasons why loose leaf tea is where it’s at.

1. LOOSE LEAF TEA IS MORE FLAVORFUL AND FRESH

When you drink full leaf tea, you get the whole tea leaf, not little chopped up bits or tea dust as you’ll find in tea bags. Quality & freshness can be experienced in the whole tea leaf, whereas it’s hard to see what’s in a tea bag.

2. TEA LEAVES LIKE TO DANCE

It is important for the water to be able to move freely around each tea leaf. When tea is packed into a tea bag, the leaves can’t dance and impart their full flavor.

3. IT'S ECO-FRIENDLY

Tea is best stored in an air tight canister. There is no other package needed for loose leaf tea and no wrappings or teabags to dispose of. Used tea leaves can also be easily composted.

4. LOOSE LEAF TEA IS A BETTER VALUE

If your leaves are a true tea from the Camellia Sinensis plant such as black, green, oolong, pu-erh, or white tea, they can be re-steeped multiple times saving you cash and making your tea stash last longer.

5. DRINKING LOOSE LEAF TEA IS A BEAUTIFUL RITUAL

Brewing loose leaf tea is not complicated at all, but simple and enjoyable. The very practice of scooping loose leaf tea into an infuser basket and pouring hot water into the teapot to watch the tea leaves dance is like a simple meditation. It engages all our senses, slows us down for a few moments, and helps us to find our center again. I always say, “tea is peace," and when I am saying that, I definitely mean loose leaf tea. Tea bags have their place and time – and it’s usually in a convenience and speed seeking moment. Loose leaf tea is on a whole other level. The ritual of preparing loose leaf tea is amazing - and once you try it, I am sure you will prefer it whenever possible!
